meet the midwife me

Darby Partner is a Certified Professional Midwife and was formerly a Licensed Midwife in the state of Oregon. Her own journey with birth began with the pregnancy and homebirth of her son, Uriah Leif in June of 1995. It was then when she began to learn about the history of birth in the U.S., birthing choices, and to devour birth stories. After her own empowering homebirth, her desire to work with birthing women was born. She wanted to help women have deeply satisfying and empowering births like she had just experienced.
Darby's younger son, Azuree Seraphim was born at home, in the bathroom, August of 2003. A fast labor, he was born with just his mother and father present, supported by loving midwives during the pregnancy and postpartum. With Azuree's birth their family was blessed to do a Lotus Birth, the practice of leaving the umbilical cord intact, and Darby supports families with this process today.
Darby's own labors and births have given her precious wisdom, and she is blessed with the presence of her children in her life...they are her shining stars!
Darby Partner completed her doula training at the Seattle Midwifery School in 1997 and received a B.A. from the Evergreen State College, also in 1997, where she studied Botany, Herbal Medicine, Art, Photography, Creative Writing, Teaching and Midwifery. She completed the Waldorf Teacher Training in Eugene, Oregon in 1999 and taught at Waldorf schools in Eugene, Oregon and Seattle, Washington as well as created and taught her own in-home Waldorf preschool.
Darby has been serving birthing women since 2001. She began actively studying midwifery in the Winter of 2003, attending study groups with a local midwife. Darby continued with organizing and attending study groups led by local midwives. Darby completed Mercy In Action Midwifery College's at-a-distance program in autumn of 2012.
Darby Partner has been a practicing herbalist for over 25 years. She grows and wildcrafts medicinal plants, gathering them to craft high quality herbal medicine. Herbs support a healthy pregnancy, ease the labor process, naturally heal the perineum after birth and are utilized throughout the child's life to support a healthy childhood.
Darby received her clinical midwifery training through a variety of apprenticeships: in Mexico with traditional Mexican midwives, at Casa de Nacimiento: a high volume birth center serving Mexican mothers in El Paso, Texas, serving Amish families in rural Wisconsin, at a busy practice in Pleasant Grove, Utah and in homebirth practices and at a freestanding birth center in Eugene, Oregon. She served as an assistant midwife in Eugene Oregon from 2007-2012.
Darby attended many conferences during her training including Ancient Art Midwifery Skills Lab, Barbara Harper's Waterbirth workshop, Midwifery Today conferences in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, Dr. Jack Newman on Breastfeeding and Jesica Dolin's Breech Birth workshop.
Darby has been certified in neonatal resuscitation and adult CPR since 2008, when she took Karen Strange's NRP class.
Darby is certified in Waterbirth with Waterbirth International.
Darby has served mothers as a primary midwife in Eugene, Oregon and Pleasant Grove, Utah. She also worked in Kerala, India where she helped start the first birth center in South India. She honed her postpartum care skills working as a postpartum midwife at Bella Vie Gentle Birth Center in Salem, Oregon. Darby began her midwifery practice on the Island of Hawaii in August of 2013.
Darby Partner CPM is passionately committed to serving women and families and working towards humanized birth for all. Pregnancy and birth are sacred, as well as physiologically normal events of human life. It is an honor to serve women during their childbirth experiences.
